PENCILANDBOXBOOKS. This is the 3rd and last book of the Season. We spent some wonderful days biking in Bavaria in August, like all these last years. I could travel on a bike for months without end! Life is so easy then. There is a clear goal for every day - arriving at the planned destination. One has only to think about the details - not get lost, find water, check the weather, load and unload the saddlebags on the bike, use rationally your energy. Then, unpack in the new town, for a deserved rest, find some nice food and wine - being in Germany a beer too. All put together, a treat for body and soul. And then another town for the following day. It is like permanent renovation, all new and all the same, a philosophical feast. 

Up to this year I had to try to manage all that in English, or rely on our German speaking teammates. But this year - thanks to my humble A1 Deutsch - I could do all that in German too!

Este es el tercer y último libro de la temporada. Pasamos unos fantásticos días en bicicleta por Baviera en Agosto, como todos estos últimos años. Podría viajar en bicicleta por meses sin fin! La vida es tan fácil así. Un objetivo claro para cada día - llegar al destino planeado. Uno tiene que pensar sólo en los detalles - no perderse, encontrar agua, mirar el tiempo que va a hacer, cargar y descargar las alforjas en la bicicleta, usar la energía racionalmente. Luego deshacer el equipaje en el nuevo lugar, para un merecido descanso, encontrar donde comer y beber un bueno vino agradablemente - estando en Alemania también una cerveza. Todo junto, un lujo para cuerpo y alma. Y así otro lugar distinto el siguiente día. Es como una renovación permanente, todo nuevo y todo lo mismo, un festín filosófico.

Hasta este año tenía que arreglarme para todo esto en inglés, o pedir ayuda a nuestros compañeros de viaje, que hablan alemán. Pero este año - gracias a mi humilde Deutsch A1 -he podido hacerlo todo en alemán además! 

50 à TEUILLAC

PENCILANDBOXBOOKS. Our French friends H and B invited family and friends for a long B's birthday weekend in June at their house in Teuillac. We had lunch, dinner, and then breakfasted too. Most of the guests were of course French but in honor of the host (German born herself), there were a few German too, including her mother. M spoke mainly in English, as she usually does in these occasions, but this time she spoke quite more in French than usual. When in France I like speaking but in French but having there B's mother I enjoyed myself adventuring with her in my little German too. Spanish was not of great use, I'm afraid, during the whole weekend.

Nuestros amigos franceses H y B nos invitaron a familia y amigos a un largo fin de semana de cumpleaños de B en Junio en su casa en Teuillac. Comimos, cenanos y luego desayunamos también. La mayoría de los invitados eran naturalmente franceses pero haciendo honor a la anfitriona (nacida alemana ella misma) había algunos alemanes también, incluída su madre. M habló en general en inglés, como suele hacer en estas ocasiones, pero esta vez habló un poco más en francés de lo habitual. En Francia a mi me suele gustar hablar solo en francés pero teniendo allí a la madre de B disfruté aventurándome en mi escaso alemán también. El castellano, me temo, no fue de gran uso durante todo el fin de semana.

Le había prometido a B hacer uno de mis libros. Creo haber conseguido captar el ambiente de un vrai encuentro de fin de semana francés à la campagne. Hacer ckick aquí para ver.

BLURB SEASON

PENCILANDBOXBOOKS. It was long due. We went on trips and celebrations to Florence in May, to Teuillac in June and to Bavaria in August and I hadn't produced any of the customary books yet. But I have managed to put all that work behind and now the presentation season starts.

PS: I know I have stuck with the Blurb books. I couldn't find any other publisher that I liked better. Anyone there with an alternative suggestion?

Lo debía hace tiempo. Fuimos de viajes y celebraciones a Florencia en Mayo, a Teuillac en Junio y a Baviera en Agosto y todavía no había producido ninguno de los obligados libros. Pero he conseguido dejar todo ese trabajo detrás y ahora empieza la temporada de presentaciones.

PENCILANDBOXBOOKS. A bit late yes, but as promised here is the latest PencilandBoxBook - this one about our trip to Sicily in May and our stay there in Ortigia.
We went there behind the scent of what we had read about Publius Cornelius Scipio Africanus (236-183 BC) the Roman who finally beat Hannibal. Scipio took base in the island of Ortigia for the 2 years that he stayed in Sicily to prepare the V and VI Roman legions before crossing to Africa for the final battle. 
We found what was left (click here to watch)  and came back home with tomatoes (see Sicilian Tomatoes).

Un poco tarde sí, pero como prometido aquí está el último PencilandBoxBook - este acerca de nuestro viaje a Sicilia en Mayo y nuestra estancia allí en Ortigia.
Fuimos tras el rastro de lo que habíamos leído de Publio Cornelio Escipión el Africano (236-183 AC) el general romano que finalmente batió a Anibal. Escipión tomo como su base la isla de Ortigia durante los 2 años que permaneció en Sicilia para preparar a la V y VI legiones romanas antes de cruzar a Africa para la batalla final.
Encontramos lo que había quedado (hacer click aquí para verlo) y volvimos a casa con tomates (ver Sicilian Tomatoes).

RHEIN RIDER MOON

BIKING. The last 2 weeks we've been biking 500 Kms down the Rhine River through Switzerland, Austria, Germany and even tiny Liechtenstein. Browse through my Pencil and Box Book (click here) and you'll get an overall idea of the adventure.
The copy in the book  - this time - is written only in Spanish and probably it comes on the screen too small to be read anyway. But in case you might be interested on it I intend to post each chapter of the book the following days/weeks.
This is in a way a scheme to keep the interest in a wonderful way of getting to know the region. I highly recommend it to anyone.
Last year we did the Danube River from Passau in Germany to Vienna (see Biking), but this year's Rhine from the Alps to Basel was even better. 

Las últimas 2 semanas hemos hecho 500 Kms en bicicleta bajando el Rin a través de Suiza, Austria, Alemania e incluso la minúscula Liechtenstein. Curiosea entre las páginas de mi Pencil and Box Book (hacer click aquí) y tendrás una idea general de la aventura.
El texto del libro es probablemente demasiado pequeño para que se vea bien en pantalla. Pero por si alguno pudiera estar interesado me propongo publicar cada capítulo en este blog los próximos días/semanas.
Es una especie de maniobra para mantener el interés en una manera estupenda de conocer la región. Se la recomiendo a cualquiera.
El año pasado hicimos el Danubio desde Passau en Alemania hasta Viena (ver Biking), pero el Rin desde los Alpes hasta Basilea de este año ha sido incluso mejor si se puede.

PHOTOGRAPHY. This is the photo book (click here) from the bike trip down the Danube river this summer. I know I had already written about the trip, but this is just pictures, in case some of you hadn't enough of them :-)

2010 was to be the last summer of my mother in Munitibar, her home town.

PHOTOGRAPHY. B asked me to make one of my photo-books, for her exhibition in Blaye. We went there, talked, ate, drank, and made a lot of pictures. 
The result is BARBARA À BLAYE, my first book on order!
I only "charged" her with the food and keep while at her place, and sent her in exchange the book, free-delivered too. So a business had started :-)  
Anyone with an idea - his house, her paintings, his town, her boat, his pier, you name it - is welcomed.  I will go, walk around, take the pictures, and the resulting book will then be delivered free, like Barbara's. 
No matter where you are, if you want the book, you just have to pick me at the closest airport/station and feed me while around taking the pictures. Isn't this a great business proposal?
