DREAM TRAVEL: Neumarkt in der Oberpfalz

DAY 10. Nürnberg – Neumarkt  44 km. We are back in the "Five River Road". On Tuesday we leave Nürnberg and follow the idyllic Ludwig-Donau-Main Channel. A very beautiful route for a very special day. August 16 is the birthday of a dear member of our "bike club".

It was difficult to find a place to stay in Neumarkt too. But finally we have found a nice one, the Stern, in the Old City.

And yet better, there is in Neumarkt a fantastic garden pool!

We only need now to find a good restaurant. Those are my favorites:

1. The Oberer Ganskeller. A good looking Biergarten.

2. Pepe. A Mexican place with a nice ambiance. Sure they serve good drinks!

Neumarkt's Old City looks beautiful, and both are there. May be there is better restaurant too, but at least I've found an Ice Cream parlor, Via Christina, that claims to have "the best Ice Cream in Neumarkt".

DIA 10. Nürnberg – Neumarkt  44 km. De vuelta en la "Ruta de los 5 Ríos". El martes dejamos Nürnberg y seguimos el idílico canal de Ludwig-Donau-Main. Un bonito camino para un día especial. El 16 de Agosto es el cumpleaños de un querido miembro de nuestro "club de las bicis".

No ha sido fácil encontrar un sitio para dormir aquí también. Pero finalmente nos hemos hecho con uno agradable, el Stern, en la parte antigua de Neumarkt.

Y mejor aún, en Neumarkt tienen una fantástica piscina, de esas alemanas rodeadas de verde y árboles!

Solo necesitamos ya un buen restaurante. Mis favoritos son:

1. El Oberer Ganskeller. Un Biergarten agradable.

2. Pepe. Un sitio mejicano con aspecto de buen ambiente. Seguro que buenas Margaritas!

La parte antigua de Neumarkt se ve bonita, y los dos están ahí. Puede que encontremos un restaurante mejor, pero al menos he encontrado una heladería, Via Christina, que dice tener "el mejor helado de Neumarkt".

Wir sind zurück im "Fünf Flüsse Radweg". Am Dienstag verlassen wir Nürnberg und folgen den idyllischen Ludwig-Donau-Main Kanal. Ein schöner Weg für einen besonderen Tag - ein sehr liebes Mitglied von unserem Radverein hat Geburtstag am 16. August.

Im Neumarkt war es auch schwer ein Hotel zu finden. Aber endlich haben wir ein Nettes gefunden, das Stern, in der Altstadt.

Und noch besser, es gibt in Neumarkt ein großartiges Freibad! 

Wir brauchen nur jetzt ein nettes Restaurant für diesen Tag. Diese sind meine Lieblichsten:

1. Das Oberer Ganskeller. Ein netter Biergarten.

2. Pepe. Ein mexikanisches Lokal mit gutem Ambiente. Sicher gute Getränke!

Die Altstadt von Neumarkt ist schön, und beide befinden sich dort. Vielleicht gibt es dort ein besseres Restaurant, aber ich habe wenigstens ein Eiscafé gefunden, Via Christina, dass "das beste Eis in Neumarkt" hat. 

DREAM TRAVEL: Nürnberg (2)

As in last years it is our intention to go cycling around Germany this year too. 
This is the plan, day by day. Enjoy it. How the real thing will then be?

DAY 9. Neustadt – Nürnberg  52 km. On Monday we ride further back through the land towards Nürnberg. But we already "know" Nürnberg. (See Nürnberg Day 4).

We stay in the same hotel. The one we "like"!

This way we can compare Nürnberg on a Monday with Nürnberg on a Wednesday. :-)

Just a moment, this day is August 15. Ferragosto! We may visit too an Italian restaurant (See more Nürnberg Day 4 for that). :-)

Como en los últimos años, pensamos ir a andar en bicicleta a Alemania también este año.

Este es el plan, día a día. ¿Cómo será luego en realidad todo?

DIA 9. Neustadt – Nürnberg  52 km. El lunes continuamos el camino de vuelta campo a través hacia Nürnberg. Pero ya "conocemos" Nürnberg (Ver Nürnberg Día 4).

Nos quedamos en el mismo hotel. El que nos "gusta"!

Así podemos comparar Nürnberg un lunes con Nürnberg un miércoles. :-)

Un momento, este día es 15 de Agosto. Ferragosto! Quizás deberíamos ir a un restaurante italiano. (Ver más Nürnberg Día 4). :-)

DAS ORIGINAL AUF DEUTSCH:

Am Montag fahren wir weiter durch das Land zurück nach Nürnberg. Aber wir "kennen" schon Nürnberg. (Siehe Nürnberg Tag 4).

Im gleichen Hotel bleiben wir auch, weil es uns viel gefallen wird. Hoffen wir!

Somit können wir Nürnberg an einem Montag mit Nürnberg an einem Mittwoch vergleichen :-)

Moment mal, dieser Tag ist der 15. August. Ferragosto! Vielleicht könnten wir auch ein italienisches Restaurant besuchen. (Sieh Nürnberg Tag 4 weiter). :-)

DREAM TRAVEL: Neustadt an der Aisch

DAY 8. Volkach - Neustadt an der Aisch  58 km. Sunday again. Already a week on the bike. On August 14 we leave the Main and start our way back towards Nürnberg and Regensburg. But we will be coming down through a different route and different places. More to the West.
We didn't really know which way to take. It is going to be a bit like an adventure through the land. And we have chosen Neustadt that way, because it is somehow half way between Volkach and Nürnberg.
Our destination for the day seems a nice place. A quiet town for a quiet Sunday. Of course I've been looking for a couple of places where to eat and drink there. We should have ridden by then that day more than 50 km!
The center of Neustadt is its Marktplatz. There is there the Scharfes Eck. It seems to serve good food and to have a nice atmosphere too.
Close by is the Gasthaus Zur Sonne. It is may be a bit more elegant than the first one.
And a bit further it is the Kohlenmühle, in an old Mill (Mühle)!

DIA 8. Volkach - Neustadt an der Aisch  58 km. Domingo de nuevo. Una semana ya sobre la bicicleta. El 14 de Agosto dejamos el Main e iniciamos el camino de vuelta hacia Nürnberg y Regensburg. Pero volvemos por una ruta distinta y otros lugares. Más hacia el Oeste.
No sabíamos realmente qué camino tomar. Va a ser un poco la aventura a través del campo. Y hemos elegido Neustadt un poco así también, por estar a medio camino entre Volkach y Nürnberg.
Nuestro destino del día parece además un lugar agradable. Un pueblo tranquilo para un domingo tranquilo. Por supuesto, he estado buscando un par de sitios donde comer y beber allí. Habremos hecho más de 50 kms para entonces ese día!
El centro de Neustadt es su Marktplatz. Allí está el Scharfes Eck. Parece que sirven buena comida y que tiene buen ambiente también. 
Muy cerca está el Gasthof Zur Sonne, como que parece más elegante.
Y un poco más lejos el Kohlenmühle, en un viejo molino (Mühle)!

DAS ORIGINAL AUF DEUTSCH:

Es ist wieder Sonntag. Schon eine Woche auf dem Fahrrad. Am 14. August verlassen wir den Main und fangen langsam den Weg zurück nach Nürnberg und Regensburg an. Aber wir fahren doch durch verschiedene Wege und verschiedene Orte. Mehr zum Westen. 

Wir wissen wirklich nicht welchen Weg wir nehmen sollen. Es ist ein bisschen das Abenteuer durch das Land. So haben wir Neustadt ausgewählt, weil sie mitten auf dem Weg von Volkach nach Nürnberg liegt.

Unser Ziel für diesen Tag sieht auch nach einer netten Stadt aus. Ein ruhiger Ort für einen ruhigen Sonntag. Natürlich habe ich da auch ein paar Lokale zum Essen und Trinken gesucht. Wir sollen diesen Tag an wenigsten 50 km radfahren sein!

Das Zentrum von Neustadt ist der Marktplatz. Da liegt das Scharfes Eck. Es scheint gutes Essen und gute Atmosphäre zu haben. 
In der Nähe ist auch das Gasthaus Zur Sonne, das vielleicht eleganter ist. Man muss schauen.

Und etwas weiter ist es das Kohlenmühle, das in einer alten Mühle ist!

DREAM TRAVEL: Volkach

DAY 7. Haßfurt - Volkach  54 km. We follow all the day the Main further. On Saturday August 13 we'll arrive in Volkach, where just on this day is there a big Wine Fest!

Volkach is a beautiful small town by the Main, surrounded by vineyards. We didn't know that on the day of our planned arrival would be there a Wine Festival.That was why we couldn't find a room, every place was fully booked. But finally we've been very lucky. It seemed impossible! The Turndieb Hotel seems also very beautiful, and in a quiet corner too. I hope that this is not just a dream.

And in this dream town I've found also a really nice Biergarten, the Hinterhöffe, with a romantic terrace. But if on a day like this we want to dine there, it would be better to book a table soon!

Or why not, we could just go and get ourselves lost in the Fest.

DIA 7. Haßfurt - Volkach  54 km. Seguimos la ruta junto al Main todo el día. El sábado 13 de agosto llegaremos a Volkach, donde celebran ese día una gran fiesta del vino!

Volkach es un pueblo pequeño y bonito, a orillas del Main, rodeado de viñedos. No sabíamos que ese día hubiera fiesta. Así que no conseguíamos encontrar una habitación libre. Pero al final hemos tenido mucha suerte. Parecía imposible! Y el hotel Turndieb parece además bonito, y en una esquina tranquila. Espero no haberlo soñado solo.

Y en este pueblo de cuento he encontrado también un Biergarten, el Hinterhöffe, con una romántica terraza. Pero si en un día así queremos cenar allí, mejor reservamos pronto!

O podemos simplemente perdernos en la noche de fiesta.

Den ganzen Tag folgen wir den Main weiter. Am Samstag 13. August kommen wir in Volkach an, und da gibt es diesen Tag ein großes Weinfest!

Volkach ist eine schöne kleine Stadt am Main, umgeben von Weinbergen. Wir wussten nicht, dass es dort ein Weinfest gab. Wir konnten kein Hotel finden. Aber endlich haben wir viel Glück gehabt. Es war unmöglich! Das Hotel Turmdieb ist auch sehr schön und es sieht ruhig aus. Ich hoffe, dass wir es nicht geträumt haben.

Und in dieser Traum-Stadt habe ich auch einen nette Biergarten ausfindig gemacht, das Hinterhöfle, mit einer romantischen Terrasse. Aber wenn wir an einem Tag wie diesen da zu Abend essen möchten, sollten wir besser schnell reservieren! 

Oder wir könnten uns doch auch im Fest verlieren.

DREAM TRAVEL: Haßfurt

DAY 6. Bamberg - Haßfurt  37 km. August 12 and already Friday. The weekend. We follow the Main all the day towards Haßfurt.

Haßfurt is a small town. There we'll be staying at the Walfisch Hotel and I haven't found a better place for our Friday dinner than the Hotel's restaurant. Nor a better hotel either. But I couldn't say if that is good news or not!

May be we are very tired and we can sleep long. May be the wine is good too. We are in the Main!

DIA 6. Bamberg - Haßfurt  37 km. 12 de Agosto y ya viernes. El fin de semana. Seguimos el Main todo el día hasta Haßfurt.

Haßfurt es un pequeño pueblo. Allí nos vamos a instalar en el Hotel Walfisch y no he encontrado mejor comedor que el del hotel para nuestra cena de viernes. Tampoco mejor hotel. No podría asegurar que esto sea necesariamente una buena noticia!

Puede que estemos muy cansados y podamos dormir mucho. Puede que el vino sea bueno también. Estamos en el Main!

DAS ORIGINAL AUF DEUTSCH:

12. August. Es ist erst Freitag. Das Wochenende. Wir folgen den Main dem ganzen Tag nach Haßfurt. 

Haßfurt ist eine kleine Stadt. Da bleiben wir im Hotel Walfisch und da habe ich kein besseres Esszimmer für das Freitag-Abendessen gefunden, als das Esszimmer im Walfisch. Ich habe auch dort kein besseres Hotel gefunden. Aber ich kann nicht sagen, ob das eine gute Nachricht ist!

Vielleicht sind wir sehr müde und können lange schlafen. Vielleicht ist der Wein auch gut. Wir sind am Main!

DREAM TRAVEL: Bamberg

DAY 5. Nürnberg - Bamberg  67 km. On August 11 we'll ride along the Main-Donau Chanel all the way to Bamberg. A rather long ride for us this day.  

Bamberg lays in between three rivers and an island and it is famous both for its Old City and for its old Breweries too.

On arrival - after a ride of nearly 50 miles - we deserve a good dinner there!

Of course, before dinner, we can still have a little walk along the pretty path by the river, and from there we could also have a quick look of the so called "Little Venice".

But we need to choose in the neighborhood our Restaurant too:

- May be the Kachelofen, a very homy place, with a countryside atmosphere.

- Or the Alt Ringlein, its neighbor. A bit more elegant and with a terrace inside.

- The Zapfhanh looks like an interesting place too. Good burgers in a rustic environment. Vegetarian ones too. Nice terrace for a beer.

- Another one is the Brudermühle, on a nice spot by the river. At least it's worth a visit. There they offer their famous "Kartoffelsuppe" too.

All of them are close to our hotel, the Weierich, a classic in Bamberg.

And a wish: I would like to visit the "Rosengarten". It is close by too. May be in the morning.

DIA 5. Nürnberg - Bamberg  67 km. El 11 de Agosto pedaleamos a lo largo del Canal Main - Donau, hasta llegar a Bamberg. Un buen recorrido.

Bamberg se sitúa entre tres ríos y una isla y es famosa tanto por su Ciudad Antigua como por sus viejas cervecerías. 

Cuando lleguemos, tras casi 70 km de ruta, nos habremos ganado una buena cena!

Por supuesto, antes de cenar, aún podemos dar un paseo junto al río, y desde allí echar un vistazo a la llamada "Pequeña Venecia". Pero sin olvidarnos de elegir nuestro restaurante:

- Podría ser el Kachelofen, un sitio casero, de ambiente campestre.

- O el Alt Ringlein, su vecino. Algo más elegante y con terraza dentro.

- El Zapfhanh parece un sitio interesante también. Buenas hamburguesas en un entorno rústico. También vegetarianas. Y una bonita terraza donde tomarse una cerveza.

- Otro lugar es el Brudermühle, en un rincón pintoresco junto al río. Al menos merece ser visto. Y sirven su famosa "Kartoffelsuppe".

Todos están cerca de nuestro hotel, el Weierich, un clásico en Bamberg.

Y un deseo: me gustaría visitar el "Rosengarten" que está también muy cerca. Quizá por la mañana.

Wir fahren am 11. August eine lange Strecke den Main-Donau-Kanal entlang nach Bamberg.

Bamberg liegt zwischen drei Flüssen und einer Insel und ist für ihre sehr schöne Altstadt und ihre alte Brauhäuser sehr bekannt.

Von Nürnberg nach Bamberg müssen wir 70 km radfahren. Danach dürfen wir gut essen und trinken!

Natürlich könnten wir vorher ein bisschen auf dem schönen Weg am Fluß entlang spazieren gehen. Und davon ein Blick auf "Klein-Venedig" werfen.

Aber wir werden dazu ein gutes Restaurant in der Nähe brauchen:

- Vielleicht das Kachelofen, ein urgemütliches fränkisches Gasthaus mit einer guten Bauernstube-Atmosphäre.

 - Oder das Alt Ringlein, sein Nachbar. Ein bisschen eleganter und mit einer Terrasse drinnen.

- Interessant ist auch das Zapfhanh. Mit gutem Burger in einer rustikalen Atmosphäre. Vegetarisches auch. Sehr nette Terrasse, um ein Bier zu trinken.

- Ein Anderes: das Brudermühle. Es liegt in einer sehr schönen Lage. Ein Besuch wert. Da bieten sie auch eine sehr bekannte Kartoffelsuppe an!

Alles sind neben unserem Hotel, das Weierich, ein Klassiker in Bamberg.

Und ein Wunsch: ich wollte den Rosengarten besuchen. Er ist auch in der Nähe.

DAY 4. Sulzbach - Nürnberg  57 km. On August 10 we leave the Danube and its tributaries. Half way on the day's route we start to travel towards the Rhine and the Atlantic. We meet there the Pegnitz and follow it all the way into Nuremberg.

Nuremberg is a big city, the second in Bavaria after Munich. But she looks very beautiful.

In the old city lies our hotel, the Agneshof, quiet on the secluded Agnesgasse street. It is a small hotel that seems to have a young Bavarian-charm atmosphere. It has also a small garden and a spa. All that in the best quarter of the historic inner city. A pearl. 

In Nuremberg there are also many interesting places where to dine and drink. I have chosen my recommendations in the internet:

1. Just in the corner of the street by our hotel is the Albrecht Dürer Stube.  It is a very famous place, nice and with good food. Traditional but super. 

2. The Zum Albrecht Dürer Haus. Yes, similar name, similar food, but everything seems like more modern. I read on the menu: Turnip and carrot lasagne 8,9, Red-wined-chicken with potato gratin 10,9. I am getting so hungry!

3. Café Wanderer. With a nice terrace and full of character. And on a beautiful spot and really easy to reach - just in front of the Zum Albrecht Dürer Haus!

On the other side of the river I've found a sort of very different places too, a different world:

4. O-Sha. Cooking from Thailand. A nice place with a terrace and strongly recommended. 

5. Indigo. A very modern set with good pasta. We could have a look at it.

6. Estragon. Another modern Mediterranean restaurant. All 3 are close by. Interesting menu and good prices too.

We are going to spend two nights in Nuremberg (August 10 and 14) so we can choose 2 places!

And I have also found a picture of a beach in Nuremberg. I believe it must be by the Pegnitz. That is on our way!

Como en los últimos años, pensamos ir a andar en bicicleta a Alemania también este año.

Este es el plan, día a día. ¿Cómo será luego en realidad todo?

DIA 4. Sulzbach - Nürnberg  57 km. El 10 de Agosto abandonamos el Danubio y sus tributarios para a medio día iniciar el camino hacia el Rin y el Atlantico. Encontramos ahí el Pegnitz, al que seguimos hasta Nuremberg.

Nuremberg es una ciudad grande, la segunda de Baviera tras Munich, pero se ve muy bonita.

Nuestro hotel, el Agneshof, está en la parte antigua, en un rincón tranquilo. Es un pequeño hotel que parece tener una atmosfera joven y de encanto bávaro al tiempo. Tiene también un pequeño jardín y un spa. Todo esto en el mejor barrio de la ciudad antigua. Una perla.

En Nuremberg hay también muchos lugares interesantes para ir a cenar. He elegido estos en internet:

1. Justo en la esquina de nuestro hotel está el Albrecht Dürer Stube. Un sitio famoso, bonito y de buena comida. Tradicional y bueno.

2. El Zum Albrecht Dürer Haus. Sí, nombre similar, comida similar, pero todo parece como más moderno. Leo en la carta: Lasaña de nabos y zanahorias 8,9, Pollo al vino tinto con gratin de patata 10,9. Me muero de hambre!

3. Café Wanderer. Bonita terraza y como con caracter. Está en un lugar bonito y fácil de llegar - justo en frente del Zum Albrecht Dürer Haus!

Al otro lado del río he encontrado tambien sitios distintos. Otro mundo:

4. O-Sha. Cocina tailandesa. Bonito restaurante con terraza y muy recomendado.

5. Indigo. Un sitio muy moderno de buena pasta. Podemos echar un vistazo.

6. Estragon. Otro restaurante mediterráneo moderno. Los tres están cerca uno del otro. Carta interesante y buenos precios también. 

Vamos a estar en Nuremberg 2 noches, el 10 y el 14 de Agosto, así que podemos elegir 2 sitios!

Y he encontrado también una foto de una playa en Nuremberg. Creo que tiene que estar en el Peignitz, o sea en nuestra ruta!

Am 10. August verlassen wir die Donau und ihre Nebenflüsse. Mitte auf dem Weg fangen wir an nach dem Rhein und dem Atlantik zu reisen. Wir treffen die Pegnitz und folgen sie nach Nürnberg. 

Nürnberg ist eine große Stadt, die Zweite in Bayern nach München. Aber sie sieht sehr sehr schön aus.

In der Altstadt liegt unser Hotel Agneshof, ruhig in der Agnesgasse. Das kleine Hotel scheint eine junge charmant-bayerische Atmosphäre zu haben. Es hat auch einen kleinen Garten und ein Spa. Und es ist im besten Viertel der historischen Innenstadt! Eine Perle.

In Nürnberg gibt es auch viele interessante Orte zum Essen und Trinken. Im Internet habe ich da meine Lieblichsten gewählt:

 1. Ganz in der Nähe des Hotels ist die Albrecht Dürer Stube. Sie ist sehr bekannt und sehr gemütlich und das Essen ist da sehr lecker. Traditionell aber prima! 

Achtung: Wenn wir da essen wollen, sollten wir wahrscheinlich vorher buchen.

2. Zum Albrecht Dürer Haus. Ja, sehr ähnlicher Name, sehr ähnliches Essen, aber alles ist dort wie moderner. Ich lese in der Karte: Kohlrabi-Karotten Lasagne 8.9, Rotweinhähnchen mit Kartoffelgratin 10,9. Ich werde schon hungrig!  

3. Café Wanderer. Mit Terrasse und charaktervoll. Und dieses Café ist in einer schönen Lage und ganz einfach zu gehen. Es ist vor dem Albrecht Dürer Haus Restaurant!

Auf der anderen Seite des Flusses habe ich sehr verschiedene Orte gefunden. Eine andere Welt:

4. O-Sha. Thailändische Küche. Schönes Restaurant mit Terrasse. Und es ist sehr empfohlen. 

5. Indigo. Sehr modernes Lokal. Gute Pasta in guter Lage. Wir können dort einen Blick werfen.

6. Estragon. Ein anderes modernes mediterranes Restaurant in der Nähe. Interessante Karte. Gute Preise auch. 

Aber wie wir in Nürnberg zwei Tage (am 10. und am 14. August) bleiben, so können wir zwei Orte zu Abend essen auswählen!

Und ich habe ein Photo von einem Strand in Nürnberg gefunden. Ich glaube, dass er an der Pegnitz ist. Das ist auf unserem Weg!

DREAM TRAVEL: Sulzbach

DAY 3. Kallmünz - Sulzbach  52 km. On August 9 we leave the Naab to follow its tributary the Vilns. It is our second day riding all day upstream.

Sulzbach is also a small town. There we intended to rest in a place called Sperber Bräu Gasthof, where they make their own beer and all. That was our initial plan, but there are no rooms left. Finally we have booked in another Gasthof, Zum Bartl, up the hill. Nevertheless we still hope to dine and drink in the Sperber Bräu.

But I've made in Sulzbach, in the very same street, another discovery too: Taverne Korfu!

Este es el plan, día a día. ¿Cómo será luego en realidad todo?

DIA 3. Kallmünz - Sulzbach  52 km. El 9 de Agosto dejamos el Naab para seguir su afluente el Vilns. Es nuestro segundo día seguido río arriba.

Sulzbach es también un pequeño pueblo. Nuestra intención era descansar en un lugar llamado Sparber Bräu Gasthof. Un lugar donde hacen su propia cerveza y todo. Era nuestro plan inicial, pero no quedan habitaciones. Así que finalmente hemos reservado en otro Gasthof, el Zum Bartl, colina arriba.

Pero aún esperamos poder comer y beber en el Sparbrau Bräu.

Ah, pero hay en Sulzbach, y en la misma calle del Sparbrau, otra posible sorpresa: La Taverne Korfu!

Die Naab verlassen wir am 9. August und folgen ihren Nebenfluss, die Vilns, nach Sulzbach. Der zweite Tag, dass wir flussaufwärts den ganzen Tag fahren werden.

Sulzbach ist auch eine kleine Stadt. Da wollten wir uns im netten Sperber Bräu Gasthof ausruhen. Das war unser erster Plan, aber es gibt dort keine freie Zimmer. Endlich haben wir in einem anderen Gasthof, Zum Bartl, die Zimmer gebucht. Trotzdem hoffen wir noch im Sperber Bräu zu Abend zu essen und zu trinken.

DREAM TRAVEL: Kallmünz

As in last years it is our intention to go cycling around Germany this year too. 

This is the plan, day by day. Enjoy it. How the real thing will then be?

DAY 2. Regensburg - Kallmünz 30 km. On August 8 we have first to get our bikes from the bike store. We shouldn't forget that! The store is at the train station. Easy to remember.
Then we'll have to pack our luggage on our bikes. Ready to start our adventure.
This day we are leaving the Danube river to ride all the day upstream along the Naab towards Kallmünz.
Kallmünz is a small town by the Naab river. Our hotel, the Landgasthof Zum Birthaler, lays by the river too, half a mile before the town itself. The place holds a Biergarten too. That can be interesting I guess.
But I have found another interesting place in Kallmünz.This is the Gasthof Zum Goldener Löwen, a very special place. A visitor says: Beautiful, here the time seems to have stopped. At least we should go and have a look!

Como en los últimos años, pensamos ir a andar en bicicleta a Alemania también este año.

Este es el plan, día a día. ¿Cómo será luego en realidad todo?

DIA 2. Regensburg - Kallmünz 30 km. El 8 de Agosto primero tenemos que recoger nuestras bicicletas. No deberíamos olvidar eso! La tienda está en la estación. Fácil de acordarse.
Montar nuestro equipaje en las bicis, y listos para empezar la aventura.
Este día, dejamos el Danubio, para pedalear todo el día río arriba a lo largo del Naab, hasta Kallmünz.
Kallmünz es un pequeño pueblo a orillas del Naab. Nuestro hotel, el Landgasthof Zum Birthaler, se encuentra junto al río también, algo antes de la entrada del pueblo. El lugar tiene también un Biergarten. Esto puede ser interesante supongo.
Pero he encontrado otro sitio interesante en Kallmünz. El Gasthof Zum Goldener Löwen. Parece un lugar muy especial. Un visitante dice de él: Bonito, aquí el tiempo parece haberse parado. Al menos merece una visita!

Am 8. August müssen wir erst die Fahrräder am Fahrradgeschäft abholen. Wir dürfen das nicht vergessen! Das Geschäft liegt in Regensburg am Bahnhof. Ganz einfach.

Dann können wir unser Reisegepäck auf unsere Fahrräder packen. Da fängt unser Abenteurer an.

Diesen Tag lassen wir die Donau und fahren mit den Fahrrädern den ganzen Tag der Naab entlang flussaufwärts nach Kallmünz. 

Kallmünz ist eine kleine Stadt an der Naab. Unser Hotel, der Landgasthof Zum Birnthaler,  liegt auch am Fluss, ein bisschen vor Kallmünz. Das Hotel hat auch einen Biergarten.  Das kann interessant sein.

Aber ich habe auch einen sehr interessanten Gasthof in Kallmünz gefunden. Zum Goldenen Löwen ist besonders gemütlich. Ein Besucher sagt: Schön, dass hier die Zeit stehenblieb. Am wenigsten müssen wir dort einen Blick werfen!

This is the plan, day by day. Enjoy it. How the real thing will then be?

DAY 1. Regensburg. On August 7 we'll take off from Bilbao around 11 am, so I guess we'll be in Regensburg between 4 and 5 pm. It is a Sunday. Our Hotel is in the Old City and close to the train station. Everything easy and comfortable for our first day!

We could then, before dinner, go for a walk. Regensburg is a beautiful city. I have looked - in Internet - for nice places there. The old bridge over the Danube river. The Bismarckplatz which looks like having the right atmosphere for a nice evening.
I have looked also for a good place to have dinner. I don't know if we deserve it on our first day of "no cycling" but here they are my favorites:
1. The Brandl Braü, in the Ostengasse. This is and old space with a fresh air. High ceilings, beautiful classic ceiling lamps, and a beautiful dinner room too. And yet everything has a modern touch. The Menu too. They call themselves: "The young Bavarian cuisine". And the young Bavarian cuisine is a very affordable one too. 1,20 Euro for a scoop of ice cream!
2. Regensburger Weißbräuhaus, on the Schwarze Bären Straße. A typical Bavarian brewery with good beer and good traditional food.
3. Orkan, in Holzländerstr. An alternative ambiance. Cool, nearly vegetarian, good prices too.

Este es el plan, día a día. ¿Cómo será luego en realidad todo?

DIA 1. Regensburg. El 7 de Agosto saldremos en avión de Bilbao como a las 11, con lo que calculo que estaremos en Regensburg para las 4 o las 5 de la tarde. Es un domingo. Nuestro hotel está en el Casco Antiguo y cerca de la estación además. Todo fácil y cómodo para empezar bien!
Podríamos entonces, antes de cenar, dar un paseo. Regensburg es una bonita ciudad. He buscado en internet lugares bonitos. El puente viejo sobre el Danubio. La plaza de Bismarck, que parece tener la atmósfera perfecta para una agradable velada. 
He buscado también lugares para cenar. No sé si nos lo hemos ganado en nuestro primer día - sin bicicleta todavía - pero aquí están mis favoritos:
1. El Brandl Braü, en la Ostengasse. Es un lugar antiguo con aire fresco. Techos altos, bonitas lámparas de techo, y un bonito comedor. Y sin embargo todo tiene un toque moderno. También el menú. Se llaman a sí mismos: " La joven cocina bávara". Y la joven cocina bávara es muy económica también. 1,20 euros en carta la bola de helado!

2. Regensburger Weißbräuhaus, en la Schwarze Bären Straße. una típica cervecera bávara con buena cerveza y un buen menú tradicional.
3. Orkan, en Holzländerstr. Un ambiente alternativo. Casi vegetariano. También con buenos precios.

DAS ORIGINAL AUF DEUTSCH:
Regensburg. Am 7. August werden wir von Bilbao gegen 11 Uhr abfliegen, und ich meine, dass wir in Regensburg zwischen 4 bis 5 Uhr anreisen werden. Das ist ein Sonntag. Unser Hotel ist in der Altstadt und nahe am Bahnhof. Alles einfach und bequem für unseren ersten Tag! 

Wir können vor dem Abendessen noch in der Altstadt ein bisschen spazieren gehen. Regensburg ist sehr schön und ich habe dort in Internet schöne Orte gesucht. Die Alte Brücke über der Donau ist schön. Ich meine, dass der Bismarckplatz vielleicht eine gute Atmosphäre für den Abend haben kann.

Und natürlich habe ich auch gute Restaurants gesucht! Aber wir haben in diesem Tag nicht zu viel gearbeited. Ich weiß nicht, ob wir sie verdienen. Trotzdem sind hier meine Lieblichsten:

1. Der Brandl Braü, in der Ostengasse. Das ist ein alter Raum mit frischem Wind. Hohe Decken, schöne klassische Deckenlampe und ein schönes Esszimmer. Aber jetzt alles ein bisschen modern. Die Speisekarte auch. "Die junge bayerische Küche".  Und die junge bayerische Küche ist doch billig. Eis Kugel 1,20 Euro auf der Karte! 

2. Regensburger Weißbräuhaus, auf der Schwarze Bären Straße. Typisch Bayersiches Brauhaus mit gutem Bier und guter traditioneller Küche. Billig und lecker!

3. Orkan, in der Holzländerstr. Ein alternatives Ambiente. Sehr vegetarisch. Cool. Ein verschiedener Ort. Sehr billig auch.

IL GATTOPARDO (1963) by Visconti

FILMS. I had read the book by Lampedusa long ago. It only seemed appropriate that I had to watch the adaptation of the novel to the cinema by Visconti on the day back from a week in Florence. I know, Sicily is not Tuscany, but still all those old palaces with painting after painting of goddesses and Virgins resemble in a way. Images of a time gone by. Reflections of the time, that goes by too. Of eternity as a hope of everything remaining the same, but it never remains exactly as it was, impossible to replicate.

I lived an afternoon of emotions, watching the long movie, the sun setting in the meanwhile in red colors. A beautiful afternoon.

Leí el libro de Lampedusa hace tiempo. Y tan solo parecía apropiado que tuviera que ver la adaptación de Visconti al cine en el día de vuelta de una semana en Florencia. Ya sé, Sicilia no es la Toscana, pero aún, todos esos viejos "palazzos" con pintura tras pintura de diosas y Vírgenes se parecen en cierta manera. Imágenes de un tiempo pasado. Reflejos del tiempo, que pasa también. De la eternidad como un deseo de que todo permanezca igual, pero nunca permanece exactamente como fue, imposible de replicar.

Pasé una tarde de emociones, viendo la larga película, el sol poniendose mientras en colores rojos. Una bonita tarde.

LE JARDIN DE BALATA

MARTINIQUE. I've been in Martinique several times. But the time I went with M, A and B to the Jardin de Balata will remain in my memory for ever. We had arrived at Sainte-Anne sailing from the island of St Vincent, just in front, and anchored in its bay for a couple of days. One of them we rented a car. We wanted to go as deep into the mountains and the forest as possible, as a sort of irresistible need. As we went, the road became narrower every curve, and the vegetation denser, and the air as humid as if it were full of rain. We were soon tired and I even nearly fainted. We found a hut-bar in the jungle serving a rum drink to reestablish the blood pressure in our bodies, but still it took us a good while of the same serpentine like unending road until we saw the sea again.
We had crossed to the other side of the island - Martinique isn't that big - and there on the slopes above the brilliant blue ocean was the garden of Balata, full of every color. It was such a relief, such a happy dream coming alive after a "hard day".
This happened at a time of ups in our life, when everything seemed to be going from good to better. Soon we were to find otherwise - nothing remains as it is forever.
But we didn't know then, and everything seemed possible, and worth trying, every desire well deserved, every dream so real.
The poster A bought that day is pinned to a wall at his place, 12 years after.

He estado en Martinica varias veces. Pero la vez que fui con M, A y B al Jardin de Balata permanecerá en mi memoria para siempre. Habíamos llegado a Sainte-Anne navegando desde la isla de St Vincent, justo en frente, y fondeamos en su bahía por un par de días. Uno de ellos alquilamos un coche. Queríamos ir tan profundo en las montañas y el bosque como fuera posible, como por una especie de necesidad irresistible. Segun íbamos la carretera se fue haciendo más estrecha a cada curva, la vegetación más densa, y el aire tan húmedo como si estuviera lleno de lluvia. Pronto nos encontramos cansados, yo incluso casi me desmayé. Encontramos una choza-bar en la jungla donde servían una bebida de ron, para restablecer la presión sanguínea, pero aún nos llevó un buen rato de la misma carretera, como una serpentina sin fin, hasta que volvimos a ver el mar.
Habíamos cruzado hasta el otro lado de la isla - la Martinica no es tan grande -  y allí, en la ladera sobre el brillante océano azul estaba el Jardin de Balata, lleno de todos los colores. Fue tal la sensación de alivio, tan feliz el sueño hecho realidad tras el "duro día".
Esto sucedió en un tiempo de "subidas" en nuestras vidas. Cuando todo parecía ir de bueno a mejor. Pronto ibamos a comprobar que no - nada permanece inmovil.
Pero no lo sabíamos entonces, y todo parecía posible y que había que intentarlo, todo deseo bien merecido, todo sueño tan real.

HORCHATA LUNCH BY THE GUGGENHEIM

TIPS. This was another failed lunch. I had a couple of meetings in Bilbao and then I had planned for a lunch. But plans 1, 2, and 3 failed and I ended substituting lunch for a (large) glass of horchata at Bilbao's Doña Casilda Park. Horchata is a sort of nut milk made with the brown tubers ("chufas") from the root of a nut sedge plant typical of Eastern Spain. But if you happen to be around Bilbao, visiting the Guggenheim or otherwise, this Northern horchata is worth the incursion in the Park, a short walk from the Museum. Chilled but liquid, as it should be. Silky and creamy.
The mild autumn weather helped - I took off jacket and tie to better enjoy the treat of drinking it slowly.

Esto fue otra comida fallida. Tenía un par de reuniones en Bilbao y luego había planeado una comida. Pero los planes 1, 2, y 3 fallaron y acabé sustituyendo la comida por un vaso (grande) de horchata en el Parque de Doña Casilda de Bilbao. La horchata es una especie de leche de almendras hecha con los tubérculos (las chufas) de la raíz de una caña típica del Este de España. Pero si sucede que estás en Bilbao, visitando el Guggenheim o por otro motivo, esta horchata norteña merece la pena la incursión en el parque, a un paseo del Museo. Helada pero líquida, como debe ser. Cremosa y como de seda.
El suave tiempo de otoño ayudaba - me quité chaqueta y corbata para disfrutar mejor del placer de beberla despacio.
