NEVER LET ME GO by Kazuo Ishiguro

BOOKS. If you can help it, do not read it. The saddest story I've ever read. I don't know if I will find the strength to watch the movie.
Furthermore, like if it were an allegory, it has left me thinking that we all have to "complete", someway. And like them in the book, we know it too, and we do not rebel either.

  1. Hello:
Thank you for this recommendation which we shall most certainly seek out. Ishiguro is a writer we much admire.

  3. I read this book, Pet. It was so horrific, I hesitate to recommend it. I suppose people should read it because having the storyline become a reality is not outside the realm of possiblity. It was worse than sad. There isn't a word for it. The characters lack of rebellion and total acceptance of their lot infuriated me, but I see you're right....we all do the same in so many little ways.

  4. I'm sure it's good....but "lack of rebellion"...no... that would be too much to take for an old rebel like me.....

  7. Why do we do these things to ourselves?...I mean read books that make us cry. I cried ridiculously when I read Secret Lives of Bees, but then the movie, it did not touch me so.

  9. I just read some reviews and would have to agree that this is a book that would haunt you for some time. I would not see the movie unless I had read the book... hummm

Thanks for your thoughts on this book.

  10. This book is almost devastating! It stayed with me for weeks after I read it. Surprisingly, the movie is just as spectacular and touching. I love the character Kathy.

  11. I agree! I actually cried reading this book last year. I wish I hadn't read it. I will not watch the movie. Life should be about things that make us happy...like a drink with friends!

  12. I didn't know it was a book when I saw the movie. It was definitely heartbreaking. It's worth watching though; the acting was perfect.
