RICHARD III, what a coincidence!

J and N. J and N are 11 and 8 years old, which as one of the Yeoman Warder of the Tower of London repeatedly mentioned to them in a "menacing" voice is NEARLY 12 and 9, the age of the infant Edward V and his younger brother the Duke of York when they disappeared 18 days after being brought to the Tower. Nobody saw them any more. 9 days later their uncle was crowned King of England as Richard III. According to Shakespeare's play of the same name - Richard III - it was Richard himself who ordered their death. In the words of our Beefeater Warder, nobody knows what really happened but WHAT A COINCIDENCE!
The best adaptation - a modernized version - I've seen of the play is the 1995 film with Sir Ian McKellen - master of masters - in Richard III' s role. Not at all a COINCIDENCE! And worth watching.

Nadie volvió a verles.

  2. This was one of my favourite adaptions of Richard III. I loved the transporting of the setting to a fascist english state in the 1930s. I once read an historical piece that put forward the argument that Richard was not as bad as history has made him

  3. One must always remember that Shakespeare's are "historical" plays at the service of a political cause, that of the Tudors (Richard III being a Plantagenet).

  4. who knows about richard III kindness? the most important was his political actions. the best way not to be forgotten is to become a legend. the "truth" doesn't matter (always the same questions: "what is the truth?" & "which truth do you need?").

  6. I loved reading this -- brought back memories of my visit to the Tower of London when I was about 11! I think I remember hearing it at that age, too! Thanks for the memories!

  7. This is really one of the most terrifying stories in the history of England. If you have a suggestion about a book - something truly historical - I would be very grateful :)
