COMO AGUA PARA CHOCOLATE

BOOKS. Like water for chocolate is a Mexican masterpiece book and movie.
It is set in the Mexico of the beginning of the 20th century, when older daughters married first and the youngest stayed at home to take care of their aging parents.
In such a world, Tita and Pedro's love is wrapped in a beautiful story of "magic realism".
Tita's emotions become infused into her cooking, which affects the people who eat it, so the story is about wonderful recipes too!

  5. Magical Realism is my favorite genre...because life is sort of supernatural, but not at all about vampires and the like. There also a movie with Juliette Binoche called Chocolat, which is brilliant. But in this film, the chocolate is a metaphor for supposed immorality. AND there is a new book out called THE KITCHEN DAUGHTER by Jael McHenry (although I believe it's "women's fiction") about a woman who releases the ghosts of her family when she cooks their recipes. I forgot I really wanted to buy that one.
