SHADOWLANDS (1993) by Richard Attenborough

FILMS. It is a beautiful movie, based on the true story of the English writer CS Lewis about repressed emotions that finally give in to a burst of love. The happiness now is part of the pain then. The pain now is part of the happiness then. There is no way to have one and not the other.

Watching it, yet again, has brought back my deep love of England, the manners of its people, the beauty of its countryside, and with it, the need to visit, someday, like in the movie, the Golden Valley of CS Lewis childhood in Herefordshire, a picture that was a sort of image of heaven for him, that turns - by the end of the movie and his fated love affair with the American poet Joy Gresham - into a symbol of the utter happiness of elusive joy. 

 Es una preciosa película, basada en la historia real del escritor inglés CS Lewis, sobre emociones reprimidas que dan paso finalmente a una explosión de amor. La felicidad ahora es parte del dolor entonces. El dolor ahora es parte de la felicidad entonces. No hay manera de tener uno y no tener lo otro.

Volviendo a verla, de nuevo, me ha devuelto mi amor por Inglaterra, las maneras de sus gentes, la belleza de su paisaje, y la necesidad de visitar, algún día, como en la película, el Golden Valley de la niñez de CS Lewis, en Herefordshire, el dibujo que tenía en la pared que era como una imagen del cielo para él, que se torna - para el final de la película y de su historia de amor con la poetisa americana Joy Gresham - en un símbolo de la felicidad absoluta que es la dicha cuando sabemos que no va a durar.
